Canning Vale and the Jandakot area hold a lot of Perth's newer large warehousing — big flat floors built for racking and fast picking. Good concrete to work with, but it brings its own problem.
Newer slabs can still be giving off moisture long after they look bone dry, and damp pushing up from underneath will lift a brand new floor off perfectly good concrete. On a younger slab, checking for that first isn't box-ticking, it's the difference between a floor that holds and one that bubbles in its first summer.
The other thing with newer floors is that they're often polished smooth when they're poured. Smooth is exactly what a coating can't grip, so it has to be ground open first — and that's the step that gets skipped when a price looks too good to be true.
